The Coralline
After the Fonza Cape, about 80 mt
far from the coast, we find surfacing rocks. Here there is one of
the most beautiful and fascinating diving site of the Elba Island
and of the Mediterranean, where it’s possible to carry out three
different diving. The first one is a wall to East that slopes down
till -30 mt where it’s possible to run up along a siphon till about
-15 mt, you could appreciate the bright red colour of Coral branches
that fill the wall gorges. The wall and the plateau are covered by
different specimen of White an Yellow Sea fans, there are many
splits that create a favourable habitat for the holes of Groupers,
Congers, Morays and many different species of fishes and Crustaceans.
One of the strong points of the diving is the spectacular
verticality of the wall that leans on a sandy depth at about -42 mt.
From here going away for about 50 mt toward South/South-East with
the wall at the back you will discover and explore very charming and
coloured rocks that often save great surprises. For the keen of the
depth there are two different versions of this diving site, called
The Outer Coralline, where you need experience and right licenses
for this kind of diving, because the first cap is placed at about
-28 mt and the second cap at about -40 mt are a considerable
difficulty. There you will find Red Sea fans , meeting with Lobsters,
Dories and Dogfishes, and in some period of the year it’s easy to
see the Mola Mola also called Sunfish.
