The Grottini
Next to the Scoglietto of
Portoferraio declared biological reserve from 1971 we can carry out
different diving. “The slide” (see diving nr. 29) or the Grottini,
the last one offers two diving versions, one is very demanding
because of the depth and you can see Red Sea Fans and Yellow Sponges,
the other one is also demanding but it’s more permissive because of
the diving multilevel management. Here we find a wall that starts
from -20 mt and slopes down to -45 mt, the wall at about -35 mt
creates small caves entirely covered by Sponges and encrustations of
every colour, Yellow Sponges and Parazoanthus cover the inner
surface of these spectacular hollows. Here we find many different
fishes like Dentex, Groupers, Scorpion fishes, Ombres, Greater
amberjack and Barracuda that can reach very big sizes thanks to the
protected marine area. Swimming up again toward the surface there is
a spectacular Posidonia meadow that often is hunting territory of
many pelagic fishes.
