MARINA DI CAMPO
After the wonderful Poro Cape cliffs, to admire
in all its breadth and magnificence the Marina di Campo Gulf, it’s
necessary to go up toward S. Ilario and S. Piero. Marina di Campo
is closed between the verdant Stella Cape and Fonza Cape, along
which hide wonderful inlets, there is the famour beach of Lacona,
characterized by her wonderful dunes of really fine sand and many
tourist services, thanks to which it’s possible to practise any
kind of water sport. Taking the open sea, the sand leave the place
to rocks and posidonia depths, ideal places for scuba diving. The
coast of Capoliveri besides Lacona boasts nice beaches and inlets:
Margidore, Lido, Zuccale, Barabarca, Morcone and Pareti, totally
surrounded by the maquis to which associate pines, eucalyptus, prickly
pears, palms and agaves, are real places of peace and nature. In
the romantic Innamorata creek watched over the small Gemini islands,
besides the water clearness and the charming and incomparable sunsets,
every 14th July you can assist to the revocation of the historical
legend of two lovers: Lorenzo and Maria, dating back at 1534; a
wonderful torchlight procession that includes the great parade of
hundred walk-ons with sixteenth century cloths. Very beautiful is
the indented Calamita Point coastline, in the numerous sheer gorges
on the crystal clear water of the sea, nest thousand of herring-gulls.
Along the coast you can see an unusual panorama: the wild nature
colours dominated by lentisks, brooms, cistus, lavender, rosemary,
space out with what remains of the mining activity of the old iron
mines of Calamita Mount. Here the red iron rocks is the prevailing
colour, as the mineral glittering mixed with black sand on the charming
beaches. Many of these beaches can be reached only by sea, since
they are already in the mineral zone. Looking to the horizon you
can see the mysterious Montecristo island, which is since a long
time an integral natural reserve.
