PIANOSA ISLAND
|
Pianosa is the fifth, for extension, of
the seven islands of the Tuscany Archipelago. It’s placed at 13
Km to South-West (SW) of the Elba island. It has a surface of 10,3
Km² and the perimeter is about 18 Km. Today the island is almost
uninhabited. Only few people live permanently on the island. (some
carabineers, the family of a guardian of the ex prison and two or
three prisoners in a half-freedom regime). Its name (“Planasia”
for the antiques) derives from the fact that it is almost flat with
light undulations, its highest peak from the sea is about 29 meters
and the average height is of 15-20 meters. It is entirely included
in the National Park of the Tuscan Archipelago. Around the island,
in a rage of 1 mile navigation and fishing are prohibited. The access
is assigned to an authorization issued from the Park Direction.
Its spring colours and its depths are really unforgettable and fascinating.
